“What can I say? Once again you have outdone yourselves. Standing on the wharf and listening to your arrangement of O Canada was amazing. And then our special song “Never Really Gone” was so emotional and beautifully sang, all the paddlers commented on it and even some of the bystanders sought me out to tell me how lovely the song was and how much it touched their heart. I hope they also spoke to you.  Thank you all once again. You are so very kind to volunteer your talents to our Dragon Boat Festival each year and we truly appreciate it. “- Joan Bates, Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, Special Events Chair 2016

“We were so delighted with the concert last evening. We have heard nothing but great reviews from all who attended. Fabulous is the most often used adjective. I’m not a professional, just a meager amateur musician, but the choir has great blend and precision. With minimal instrumental accompaniment the choir was the focus. The choir engaged with the audience taking us a long on a magical experience.”  –  Beth M., Scarborough Cathedral Bluffs United Church

“Thank you to your group for being such an important part of our day. Your singing never fails to move the Survivors and the crowd. The lady next to me, in the Cobourg boat, said “What a beautiful song” after the Never Really Gone number. We all agree. Your music and your cheerful upbeat attitude is a very positive attribute for our Festival and we are so lucky to have you as a yearly feature. Best of health to each of you and continued success with your music. ” – Joan Bates, Special Events Chair, Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival

“We were thrilled to host The Peterborough Pop Ensemble in concert at our church. Each of the 16 members were extremely talented musicians whose singing made us smile, tap our toes, laugh, sigh, clap and at times they were able to bring tears to our eyes in pleasure. The group was so animated the audience was drawn into their obvious delight in music. The artistic director, Barb Monahan, is a very competent composer, singer and director.  Her artistic vision is evident. I liked the way Barb could easily direct the group as well as being a singer in the group….a rare talent. A week has passed and many members of the audience are still excitedly talking about the concert. They want another!”   –    Dorothy D.,  Trinity United Church, Napanee

Transcendence…that’s what it’s all about.  We are greater, we are deeper, we are more mysterious that we think we are. The old guys who fought in the trenches and thought no one cared, no one knew….you sang them into tears that caused    us to cry;  you told us of a country we all yearn for, are afraid of, and helped us keep our dream;  you brought us on eagles’ wings when we were merely sparrows;  you soared us with your music, so we too can fly; you lead us to our hearts, each in the quiet of an afternoon.  Listening.  Feeling. Remembering.

We are blessed, yet bruised, yet alone, yet defiant. How is it possible you should touch us with so much power? Well, maybe you are good at translations.  You   are good at transcendence.  You are good people….and you can sing your socks off! –  Bob McDonald

“It was a wonderful afternoon laced with superb memories.  When the ensemble sang “We Honour You”, the elderly couple directly in front of me reached out to each other and tightly held hands.  Just one of those precious moments.  Congratulations to all!”  – Ken Armstrong, M.C. Songs of WW2

“…These singers make it look easy and they have a good time, infectious for the crowd who joined in…Song by song, the secular and the sacred, framed nicely by the contemplative narrative of what the perfect Christmas might be, the Peterborough Pop Ensemble’s Perfect Christmas was, as promised, a wonderful celebration of the season…”   – Ann KozurkoThe Examiner/concert review

“It was an exhilarating and moving experience;  a tribute to all those who served, especially in WW II.  As you performed the various songs, I pictured Dame Vera Lynn singing on a makeshift stage to hundreds of troops leaving the ravages of war behind them, even for a few hours…to keep their spirits up in those dark days of war…The concert was just excellent.”  – Ann T., Songs of WW II

“You brought life and meaning to what we were trying to do…words are good – but music is better.  I had one guest tell me that with the addition of the music we were able to lead the audience through their emotions so much better…We made them cry, but then laugh and smile again during the performance…we could only have done that with your assistance.  You and your group truly are blessed with a great talent and I dearly hope that we can all work together again.”   – Karen Feeley, Executive Assistant Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament – Peterborough

As a member of the Grace United Church choir, I have had the distinct privilege and pleasure of singing with the Peterborough Pop Ensemble. This group’s love for singing is evident and they make you a better singer as you feed off their energy. They sing from their hearts, and it is infectious.  I have attended many of their concerts and always have found them entertaining beyond words. Their musicality is exemplary as they sing familiar songs but give them their own amazing interpretation. Their concerts are very professionally presented, would appeal to all ages and most importantly are   fun and a great way to spend an evening.  If you haven’t heard the Peterborough Pop Ensemble sing, I highly recommend you look for their next concert. – Marilyn, Grace United Church Choir
